What is Ask for Angela?
Ask for Angela is a national safeguarding scheme that provides a discreet way for people to ask for help if they feel vulnerable or uncomfortable in a public space.
Whether someone is experiencing unwanted attention, feels unsafe on a date, is being harassed, or simply finds themselves in a situation where they need support, Ask for Angela provides a simple way to let staff know assistance is needed without having to explain everything in front of other people.
How does it work?
If support is needed, simply approach a member of staff and ask for “Angela.” Staff in participating venues are trained to recognise this as a request for support and will respond appropriately.
Every situation is different, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all response. Staff will listen and provide the support needed, whether that’s helping someone move to a safe place, contacting a friend or family member, arranging safe transport, involving venue security or, if necessary, contacting the emergency services.
The aim is to keep people safe and ensure they receive the right support.
How can the scheme be accessed?
Ask for Angela is available in participating venues across the UK. Look out for the Ask for Angela logo displayed on posters, stickers or other signage, or use the interactive map on the Ask for Angela website to locate participating venues before heading out. The map makes it easy to search for participating locations and identify where support is available.
If support is needed while in a participating venue, simply ask a member of staff for “Angela.” They will understand that assistance is required and respond in a safe, discreet and appropriate way.
If someone is in immediate danger or requires an emergency response, they should always call 999.
